How to Elope in Downtown Portland, Oregon
How to Elope in Downtown Portland, Oregon
Portland, Oregon is one of the top destinations in the States to elope. With an international airport, access to incredible nature and a bustling city of incredible restaurants and architecture, Portland draws in couples from all over the country. While the incredible Oregon coast or the lush forests are popular locations, Portland locals would agree that we house some of the coolest restaurants around. Restaurants that display beautiful interiors and create the perfect location for an intimate elopement dinner with the ones you love most.
In this blog, I will go over the steps to tie the knot in Portland, Oregon, my favorite photo locations and my favorite restaurant in town willing to host your wedding!
How to elope in portland, oregon
Step One: Obtain your marriage license
You can apply online to begin and expedite the licensing process. Both partners must then appear in person at the Multnomah County office to sign the application and present valid identification. The licensing fee is $60. Typically, there is a three-day waiting period between the time of issuance and when the ceremony can take place. Your Oregon wedding license will be valid for 60 days anywhere in Oregon.
Step Two: Plan Your Ceremony
You need an ordained or licensed officiant, a judge, or a court clerk to perform the ceremony. You can have a friend become ordained online, if they are open to the idea. Oregon law requires two witnesses, aged 18+, to be present and sign the marriage license. If you are eloping and want to keep things as private as possible, I offer free of cost witnessing when an elopement photography package is booked.
Step Three: Choose Your Downtown Location
Portland, Oregon offers a great blend of urban and natural spaces to hold your elopement. Four of my favorite places to elope in Portland are:
Multnomah County Courthouse (by appointment only)
Cathedral Park
Hoyt Arboretum
Mt. Tabor Park
Step Four: Hire Vendors and Acquire Permits
Permits: A permit is required for most ceremonies in a public park if you have guests beyond the couple, officiant, and two witnesses. You can find more information on the Portland Parks and Recreation website.
Vendors: Consider hiring a photographer who can give timing guidance and location scouting advice. Find more info here!

After tying the knot in Portland, consider hosting an intimate dinner party with all of your closest people to celebrate your love! St. Jack “is an ode to the bouchons, or esteemed cafés found in Lyon, France”, celebrating the rustic excellence of French cuisine. St. Jack now offers private events for all occasions, including wedding celebrations.
